ECOVE’s origins date back to Greenbiz, a social enterprise whose mission was to contribute with business solutions that are economically viable and socially empowering to the main environmental challenges at the local and global level. Greenbiz provided consulting services on eco-innovation for companies, and took part in international development projects funded by multi-lateral institutions like UNEP, in order to accelerate the transition to a sustainable and equitable economy, both in Spain and around the world.
Further back in time, Greenbiz itself was the natural evolution of Incubaeco, an incubator of impact ecopreneurs operating since 2012. In the autumn of 2014, propelled by a collaboration with UnternehmensGrün –German Federal Association of Green Business– within the framework of a mapping of leading ecopreneurs and green start-ups in Europe, Incubaeco widened its scope, reach and target audience, giving birth to Greenbiz, the partner in Spain of the emerging European Sustainable Business Federation: Ecopreneur.eu. Incubaeco, in turn, was established as a coalition of organizations led by Emprendae, a social enterprise working since 2009 for the promotion and empowerment of ecopreneurs.
With this background behind, in February 2016, Greenbiz joined forces with Ciclogreen and many other sustainable SMEs from the network, to lay the foundation stones of ECOVE, sharing a common vision: develop green economy ecosystems and empower their key change agents; and bring the voice of SMEs and ecopreneurs to policy makers at regional, national, European and international level. As of today, May 2016, ECOVE has an initial social mass of 30 companies and professionals working in the green economy. Growth perspectives are high, thanks to the “network of networks” structure adopted.
